India is gifting 2,000 metric tonnes of rice to Syria following a request from the Arab republic, the Ministry of Exterior Affairs stated on Friday.
The primary consignment of 1,000 metric tonnes of rice was handed over by Indian ambassador to Syria Hifzur Rahman to Syrian Minister of Native Administration Hussain Makhlouf at Latakia Port on Thursday, the MEA stated in an announcement.
The MEA stated the remaining 1000 metric tonnes of rice is anticipated to succeed in Syria on February 18.
“In response to a request from the federal government of the Syrian Arab Republic for emergency humanitarian help, the federal government of India is gifting 2000 MT of rice to strengthen meals safety in Syria,” the MEA stated.
It stated India has at all times stood in solidarity with the individuals of Syria, and its bilateral engagement has continued apace even in the course of the years of inner battle in that nation.
India had earlier gifted 10 metric tonnes of medicines to Syria in July final 12 months as a part of COVID-19 help, the MEA stated.
