Odisha’s Balasore will get the nation’s first thunderstorm analysis testbed, the India Meteorological Division (IMD) has stated.

The target of establishing the thunderstorm testbed is to minimalise human fatalities and lack of property on account of lightning strikes.

IMD Director-Common Dr Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, whereas talking with a personal tv channel, additionally revealed {that a} first-of-its-kind monsoon testbed can be being deliberate close to Bhopal.

He stated the thunderstorm testbed will likely be established in a collaboration between the Ministry of Earth Sciences, IMD, Defence Analysis and Growth Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Area Analysis Organisation (ISRO).

“The IMD, ISRO and DRDO have already got their models in Balasore. Observatories will likely be set as much as cater to close by areas and research on thunderstorms will likely be performed on the testbed,” he stated.

Mr Mohapatra, also known as the ”Cyclone Man of India” for his correct prediction of cyclones within the Indian subcontinent, identified that many lives are misplaced in Odisha, West Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand on account of lightning strikes yearly between April and June.
